Movement Media’s mission is to support organizations, campaigns, and companies that want to advance progressive social change. As activists at heart and publicists by trade, this pursuit is also our passion. Our clients are our partners: groups and people whose purpose and work we admire and believe in, and who we know we have something to offer.

We represent leading natural product companies, progressive businesses, nonprofit organizations, and grassroots activists. We strive to be stewards of our clients’ message and story while working to anchor their communications strategy and amplify their media presence with authenticity and integrity.

Hemp Advocacy

Vote Hemp

From 2013-2019, Movement Media provided support to Vote Hemp, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing acceptance of industrial hemp (low-THC oilseed and fiber varieties of cannabis). It also works for changes in current law to allow U.S. farmers to grow the crop. Vote Hemp educates the public about hemp and lobbies for lifting state and federal restrictions on growing it

Hemp Industries Association (HIA)

Movement Media provided public relations support and communications strategy to the Hemp Industries Association (HIA) from 2013-2018. The HIA is a nonprofit trade association representing businesses, farmers, researchers, and investors working with industrial hemp. The group is at the forefront of the drive for fair and equal treatment of industrial hemp. Since 1994, the Hemp Industries Association has been dedicated to education, industry development, and the accelerated expansion of the international market for hemp products. The industry has positioned itself over the past two decades to once again become a major global economic force. Hemp is one of our planet’s most important natural resources, and the association advocates using it to its full potential.

Hemp History Week

Ryan Fletcher of Movement Media co-founded Hemp History Week in 2009. Hemp History Week is an annual nation-wide public education campaign culminating in grassroots events, promotions on hemp products in retail stores, hemp plantings, documentary screenings, lobbying and other advocacy efforts each spring in order to celebrate America’s rich history with industrial hemp before it was outlawed and educate the public about the barriers to and benefits of hemp farming in the United States. Hemp History Week has played a significant role in elevating advocacy for a federal policy change while sending a strong, positive message to the President and Congress to remove barriers to hemp farming and let farmers grow the versatile and profitable crop. The campaign engages consumers by showcasing the range of hemp products available and the nutritional as well as environmental benefits that they provide while driving sales and interest in hemp brands that are innovating nutritious and environmentally friendly products.

What has Movement Media done for the Hemp Industry?

Movement Media has represented a national trade group, a national non-profit advocacy organization, and a variety of hemp brands and marketing efforts all working to promote the legalization of industrial hemp farming. From facilitating media coverage and outreach to communications strategy and video production, we worked to change public opinion and outdated policy whilie amplifying advocacy and marketing efforts in support of this sustainable and ecological crop. In December 2018, passage of the Farm Bill changed federal policy and legalized hemp farming once again in the US.

Fair World Project

Fair World Project seeks to:

  • Protect the use of the term “fair trade” in the marketplace,
  • Expand markets for authentic fair trade,
  • Educate consumers about key issues in trade and agriculture,
  • Advocate for policies leading to a just economy, and facilitate collaborative relationships to create true system change.

Fair World Project was launched in 2010 with an emphasis on promoting fair trade in commerce, especially in organic production systems, and protecting the term “fair trade” from dilution and misuse for mere PR purposes. While guided by the principles of fair trade, Fair World Project has expanded its mission to include labor justice, sweatshop-free apparel, and small-scale farming.

What does Movement Media do for Fair World Project?

Movement Media provides communications strategy and media relations support to Fair World Project. We advise on strategic communications, craft press releases, build awareness among leading media outlets about Fair World Project’s work, help develop campaigns, and create educational videos on critical issues related to fair trade, farmworker organizing, and economic justice.
