Jolana Watson joined Movement Media in the spring of 2019. A committed activist driven by the need for racial and social justice, she has a zeal for storytelling and was motivated to begin a career in public relations by her passion for writing, social media, and video production.
As Communications Associate, Jolana has supported media outreach, strategic research, and a variety of public relations projects for Movement Media’s clients, including Dr. Bronner’s, the Regenerative Organic Alliance, Sun+Earth Certified, and others. Her work has led to extensive media coverage of each of these partners. Beginning in 2020, Jolana was among the inaugural group to come together as Dr. Bronner’s DEI Task Force and continues to support the effort in a variety of capacities from communications to strategic planning. Previously in her tenure at Movement Media, she has also supported Vote Hemp and Fair World Project.
In her academic career, she focused on media from a variety of standpoints, culminating in a Master’s in International and Development Studies with a concentration in Media and Social Change, an innovative program that seeks to utilize traditional communications techniques to promote social change and community development.
Jolana loves to travel, meet diverse people, try new foods, and experience different places. Inspired by Black-feminist theories of intersectionality, she is committed to women’s rights, racial justice, prison reform & abolition, and grassroots environmental movements.
